Keira Knightley says returning spy thriller 'Black Doves' balances humour and moral complexity
NFLX•Keira Knightley said the second season of Netflix's “Black Doves” combines humour with morally complex characters. The six-part season launches Thursday on Netflix.
1. Humour and complexity
At the London launch of the second season, Keira Knightley said “Black Doves” is meant to be fun and ridiculous while featuring morally complicated characters. In the new season, her character, spy Helen Webb, juggles her double life as her husband becomes prime minister and is drawn into a dangerous mission.
2. Characters and franchise
Creator Joe Barton said viewers root for characters who are, in his words, “mass murderers, psychopaths” who “should all be in jail.” Ben Whishaw, who plays Sam Young, said the team behind the James Bond films should reinvent the franchise for modern audiences; he said nobody had approached him about reprising his role.
