Kratos Transports NASCAR Anduril 250 Gear Cross-Country via Autonomous Truck Platooning
KTOS•Kratos completed a multi-state autonomous platooning haul transporting NASCAR Anduril 250 equipment from Charlotte to Naval Base Coronado, building on its 2025 Brickyard 400 pilot. The dual-use system paired a human-driven lead with an autonomous follower trailer, enabling one driver to support two vehicles and boosting freight capacity and efficiency.
1. Cross-Country Autonomous Haul
Kratos deployed an autonomous tractor-trailer platoon carrying critical NASCAR Anduril 250 gear from Charlotte, North Carolina to Naval Base Coronado, expanding its 2025 Brickyard 400 pilot into a multi-state long-haul logistics mission in collaboration with Champion Tire & Wheel.
2. Dual-Use Platooning Technology
The platooning system paired a human-driven lead vehicle with an autonomous follower trailer overseen by an onboard safety rider. Synchronized steering, braking, GPS and sensor-based controls enabled safe operation across highways and varied environmental conditions.
3. Commercial and Defense Implications
By allowing one driver to supervise two vehicles, Kratos demonstrated potential freight capacity increases and efficiency gains that address driver shortages. This dual-use innovation could accelerate revenue-generating commercial logistics applications while reinforcing defense autonomy capabilities.
