LHX•L3Harris completed a preliminary design review on Sept. 24, 2026, for the Space Development Agency’s Tracking Layer Tranche 3 missile-tracking satellites. The $843 million contract, awarded in December 2025, covers the design and construction of 18 satellites.

L3Harris completed the Preliminary Design Review for the Space Development Agency’s Tracking Layer Tranche 3 missile-tracking satellites on Sept. 24, 2026. The baseline design covers satellites, infrared payloads, communications, networking and ground systems, and includes on-orbit processing and real-time threat-detection algorithms. The program targets near-continuous global missile warning and tracking within SDA’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.
2. Contract details
The contract, awarded in December 2025, totals $843 million for the design and construction of 18 Tracking Layer Tranche 3 space vehicles.
