Lawyer for Fed's Cook denounces Trump's latest attempt to remove her

TLT•Lisa Cook's lawyer challenged President Donald Trump's latest attempt to remove the Federal Reserve governor, questioning the objectivity of a White House probe into mortgage-fraud allegations. Cook cannot attend a November 5 hearing and says the earliest possible date is after the Fed's December 8-9 policy meeting.
In a letter to the White House, Cook's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said she could not attend a November 5 hearing because she would be in Europe for financial and monetary policy meetings. Lowell said the earliest a hearing could take place was after the Federal Reserve's December 8-9 policy meeting.
Trump has been trying to remove Cook for more than a year and has launched a new inquiry into allegations of mortgage fraud. Her lawyers have said a fair hearing would show there is no legal basis for firing her.
