Lightspeed Commerce launched Lightspeed AI across retail, hospitality and NuORDER platforms and expanded its Mobile Tap payments into France, Germany and Switzerland. The company also introduced restaurant tools (Tempo pacing, Tasks checklists, Reservations) and new retail capabilities including a centralized Marketplace, themes store, POS display upgrades and Android contactless payments.

1. Introduction to Q3 Product Innovations

On January 22, 2026, Lightspeed Commerce Inc. announced a comprehensive suite of Q3 product updates aimed at independent retailers, restaurants and hospitality venues in over 100 countries. The Montreal-based company emphasized its focus on simplifying operations, improving guest and customer experiences, and driving growth for its merchant base. Dax Dasilva, Founder and CEO, highlighted that these innovations build on Lightspeed’s strategy of providing enterprise-grade technology with minimal complexity, reinforcing the company’s position as a go-to platform for ambitious small and mid-sized businesses globally.

2. Launch of Lightspeed AI Intelligence Layer

Lightspeed AI, rolled out in January 2026, represents the platform’s first AI-powered intelligence layer, integrated into Lightspeed Retail, Lightspeed Restaurant and NuORDER by Lightspeed. Merchants and buying teams can now pose natural-language questions—such as “Which product categories grew fastest last quarter?”—and receive real-time, actionable insights without manually navigating multiple dashboards. Designed to evolve into an autonomous agent, Lightspeed AI will gain additional forecasting, anomaly detection and automated task-execution capabilities throughout 2026, positioning Lightspeed to deliver predictive analytics and workflow automation at scale.

3. Key Hospitality Enhancements

Lightspeed Tempo, currently available to flagship Restaurant customers, brings data-driven pacing to table service by leveraging the Kitchen Display System. Operators gain minute-by-minute visibility into order timing, preparation status and serve intervals, enabling consistent meal rhythms that can accelerate table turns by up to 15%. Complementing Tempo, Lightspeed Tasks offers mobile checklists for opening, closing and sanitation protocols, with real-time completion logs via the Pulse app. Lightspeed Reservations integrates online and phone booking workflows directly into the POS, reducing no-show rates through automated reminders. Finally, Mobile Tap expanded into France, Germany and Switzerland, allowing restaurant staff to accept tap, swipe or insert payments from any iPad or handheld device.

4. Retail Platform Upgrades

On the retail side, Lightspeed introduced a unified, multi-brand shopping experience within Lightspeed Marketplace, streamlining product sourcing for thousands of brands directly in NuORDER and the POS system. Retailers can now compare offerings and complete orders without switching portals, reducing procurement cycle times by up to 30%. A new Themes Store provides a library of professional ecommerce templates—both free and paid—that merchants can preview and install for rapid online store launches. Meanwhile, customer-facing displays are now supported on existing Lightspeed Payments Smart Terminals, improving checkout transparency at no extra hardware cost. The Scanner app’s contactless payment feature has also been released for Android devices across seven markets, enhancing mobility and payment choice for staff and shoppers.
