Live Markets-Before the bell: Europe set for muted open ahead of US data
SPY•U.S. inflation data in focus
U.S. consumer prices are expected to edge up 0.1% in July after falling 0.4% in June, according to a Reuters poll, with the annual print expected to slow a touch to 3.4% from 3.5% a month earlier. The data could be crucial for Federal Reserve interest rate expectations as markets are trying to work out if the central bank might hike rates in September.
Other market factors and earnings
While the data seems set to be the big markets story of the day, there are still a few other factors in play too, including a rise in Brent crude futures LCOc1 after the U.S. and Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis reported separate attacks on shipping, and of course, earnings.
A couple to watch are Dutch bank ABN Amro ABNd.AS, which beat market expectations across the board and raised its guidance for commercial net interest income on Wednesday, and Europe's largest travel company TUI TUI1n.DE, which missed operating profit expectations as bookings fell and jet fuel prices remained high.
Europe set for a steady open ahead of U.S. CPI
European markets are largely set for a steady open on Wednesday, futures suggest, as market attention seems to largely be focused on the U.S. CPI report later in the day.
Futures on the STOXX 50 STXEc1, DAX FDXc1 and CAC FCEc1 are all hovering around the flatline. FTSE futures FFIc1 meanwhile are 0.2% lower.
