Lucid partnered with Uber and Nuro to unveil a production-ready, six-passenger robotaxi based on its Gravity SUV at CES 2026, featuring interactive screens, climate and seat controls, music and support-request functions. The vehicle has begun autonomous on-road testing in the San Francisco Bay Area.

1. Shares Trade at a Steep Discount After Year-Long Decline

Lucid’s shares have fallen roughly 63% over the past 12 months, leaving the stock trading at a significant discount relative to peers in the luxury EV segment. While the Gravity SUV rollout helped boost production to 18,378 units in 2025—up 104% year-over-year—the company’s margins remain under pressure. Gross margin for the first three quarters of 2025 was negative, and Lucid recorded a cash burn of $2.5 billion through September. Investors should note that Lucid has needed five equity raises since March 2024 totaling nearly $5.8 billion, highlighting the challenge of funding operations without diluting existing shareholders further.

2. Cash Position Hinges on Single Major Backer

At the end of Q3 2025, Lucid held $2.99 billion in cash and equivalents, down from $5.04 billion a year earlier. That reserve reflects multiple capital injections led by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, which now owns roughly 60% of the company. While PIF provided $300 million in September and an additional $975 million in November 2025, Lucid’s quarterly cash burn rate of about $800 million suggests reserves could be exhausted before sustained profitability is achieved. A pullback by its largest investor would pose an existential risk, as the company needs to double annual production to around 72,000 vehicles to approach break-even economics.

3. Partnership with Uber and Nuro Drives Robotaxi Ambitions

At CES 2026, Lucid unveiled a premium robotaxi built on the Gravity platform in collaboration with Uber and Nuro, marking the start of on-road testing in the San Francisco Bay Area. The six-passenger autonomous vehicle features an Uber-designed in-cabin interface with interactive screens, climate controls and on-demand support. Lucid’s interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, indicated that production readiness is targeted for later in 2026. For investors, the project represents a potential new revenue stream, but commercialization hinges on regulatory approvals and cost-efficient scaling of the autonomous hardware stack.
