Markel Insurance named Colin Wildey Chief Risk Officer for Markel International, pending regulatory approval. Wildey, with over ten years in senior risk roles and head of risk since 2022, will enhance risk framework to support international growth and strategic ambitions.
1. Markel International Appoints New CRO
Markel Insurance has promoted Colin Wildey to Chief Risk Officer for Markel International, subject to regulatory approval. In this role, Wildey will oversee risk management for the international unit and will report directly to Henry Gardener, who became Chief Risk Officer of Markel Insurance in 2025.
2. Wildey's Risk Management Experience
Since 2022, Wildey has served as Head of Risk for Markel International, driving advances in the organisation’s risk management framework. He brings over ten years of senior risk expertise from roles including UK Chief Risk Officer and Group Head of Risk & Capital at Fidelis Insurance, with extensive engagement across PRA, FCA, BMA and CBI regulatory bodies.
3. Strategic Focus on Risk Framework
In his new capacity, Wildey will strengthen how risk informs decision-making across underwriting, capital, actuarial, compliance and operations to support sustained international growth. This appointment aligns with Markel’s strategic ambition to enhance resilience and expand its global specialty insurance offerings.
