Massachusetts governor asks Trump administration to speed natural gas pipeline review
ENB•Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey called on the Trump administration to expedite federal review of Enbridge’s RARE pipeline project, which is expected to serve 600,000 customers and lower gas bills by $40 million annually.
1. Call for faster review
Healey urged the Trump administration to expedite the federal environmental review of the Reliable Affordable Resilient Enhancement project, an expansion of the Algonquin Gas Transmission pipeline. She said the project had previously received support from President Donald Trump.
2. Project details
The project is expected to add about 75 million cubic feet per day of capacity and is targeting an in-service date in 2028. Healey said the added supply is expected to reduce reliance on higher-cost imported liquefied natural gas from Constellation Energy’s Everett terminal.
3. Regional gas supply
Algonquin transports roughly 3.1 billion cubic feet of gas per day through 1,131 miles of pipeline in New Jersey, New York and New England. In January, Massachusetts regulators approved two 10-year agreements between Eversource units and Algonquin to deliver new gas supplies.
