Mastercard Enables Google Pay for NFC Payments in Saudi Arabia

MAMA

Mastercard and Google have rolled out Google Pay support for Mastercard cards in Saudi Arabia, enabling NFC-based mobile and online payments for Android users. The partnership aligns with Saudi Vision 2030’s digital transformation goals and leverages tokenisation to secure transactions via device-specific tokens and dynamic security codes.

1. Partnership Expansion in Saudi Arabia

Mastercard and Google extended Google Pay support to Mastercard cards across Saudi Arabia, enabling users to make contactless payments via Android devices in physical stores and online checkouts.

2. NFC and Mobile Wallet Features

The service uses Near Field Communication technology to allow tap-and-go payments in retail locations and supports online transactions through the Google Pay app on Android.

3. Alignment with Saudi Vision 2030

The rollout contributes to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 digital transformation targets by promoting cashless transactions and supporting the kingdom’s push towards a fully digitized economy.

4. Security Through Tokenisation

Each transaction is secured by replacing card details with a device-specific token and a dynamic security code, ensuring that sensitive data is never exposed during payments.
