Meta Commits Upfront Capital for Oklo’s 1.2GW Pike County Microreactor Project
Meta will underwrite early site work, equipment and fuel orders for Oklo’s 1.2GW Aurora microreactor build-out in Pike County, Ohio, by providing upfront capital. Oklo remains pre-commercial, burning cash with a 2025 YTD net loss of $64.2M and operating expenses up 34% year-over-year.
1. Meta Partnership Details
Meta Platforms will provide upfront capital to underwrite early site work, initial equipment orders and fuel procurement for Oklo’s Aurora microreactor project in Pike County, Ohio. This agreement secures a future customer and reduces early-stage financing risk but does not include immediate power purchases.
2. Oklo Financial Performance
Oklo remains pre-commercial with no electricity sales to date and recorded a nine-month 2025 operating expense of $82.2 million, up from $61.3 million in 2024, resulting in a net loss of $64.2 million. Research and development costs jumped 76% and general and administrative expenses rose 196% year-over-year, reflecting rapid cash burn.
3. Project Timeline and Risks
The 1.2GW capacity build-out is targeted by 2030 for conceptual milestones and fully operational by 2034, requiring extensive licensing, manufacturing scale-up and HALEU fuel supply. While Meta’s capital reduces early equity risk, significant hurdles remain in securing fabrication yards, qualified workforce and large-scale assembly lines.
