Meta Extends Broadcom AI Chip Deal to 2029 and Secures 100GWh Storage
Meta extended its AI chip partnership with Broadcom through 2029 to develop custom 2-nanometer accelerators under a multi-gigawatt commitment. It also reserved up to 100GWh of energy storage with Noon Energy, launching a 25MW/2.5GWh project by 2028 ahead of a 1GW/100GWh rollout.
1. AI Chip Partnership Extended
Meta and Broadcom have agreed to extend their AI chip collaboration through 2029, focusing on development of custom 2-nanometer AI accelerators. The partnership includes a multi-gigawatt chip supply commitment that aims to bolster Meta’s AI infrastructure and support growing computational demand.
2. Energy Storage Agreement
Meta has reserved up to 100GWh of energy storage capacity from Noon Energy, starting with a 25MW/2.5GWh system to be operational by 2028. The larger plan anticipates deployment of a 1GW/100GWh ultra-long duration storage network to ensure round-the-clock power for its data centres.
3. Strategic Infrastructure Impact
These initiatives align with Meta’s strategy to secure high-performance computing power and resilient energy sources, reducing operational risks and supporting expansion of AI services. By strengthening hardware partnerships and integrating renewable storage, Meta aims to improve efficiency and reliability of its global infrastructure.
