Meta Faces Addiction Design Trial While Expanding Nvidia AI Chip Deployment Under $600B Plan

METAMETA

Zuckerberg is testifying in LA over claims that infinite scroll and recommendations were engineered to fuel youth addiction and mental harm, exposing Meta to major damages. Meta will deploy millions of Nvidia chips including Grace CPUs in US AI data centers as part of a $600B plan through 2028.

1. Landmark Addiction Trial

In Los Angeles federal court, Mark Zuckerberg is facing a civil suit alleging that Meta's platform features—such as infinite scroll, algorithmic recommendations and push notifications—were intentionally designed to maximize engagement and contributed to youth addiction and mental health harm. Plaintiffs aim to prove causation from product design rather than user content, potentially bypassing Section 230 protections and opening Meta to significant damages and compulsory design changes.

2. AI Data Center Expansion

Meta has inked a multiyear agreement to deploy millions of Nvidia chips—including standalone Grace CPUs and next-generation Vera Rubin systems—across its 30 planned US AI data centers, such as the 1-gigawatt Prometheus site in Ohio and 5-gigawatt Hyperion site in Louisiana. This expansion is part of Meta’s $600 billion investment plan through 2028, with joint engineering efforts to optimize AI workloads while continuing in-house chip development.
