Europe’s General Court upheld Messenger’s gatekeeper designation under the Digital Markets Act while annulling the label for Marketplace, reinstating compliance obligations on Meta’s messaging service.
1. Nvidia CEO Endorsement Spurs Premarket Rebound
Meta shares rebounded nearly 1% in premarket trading following a 7% decline over the previous three sessions. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that "nobody uses AI better than Meta," highlighting the company’s shift from classical recommendation systems to generative, agentic AI across social media, ads and content creation.
2. EU Court Ruling on Messenger Gatekeeper Status
The EU’s General Court upheld the Commission’s finding that Messenger qualifies as a gatekeeper under the Digital Markets Act, triggering obligations such as data sharing and interoperability. The court simultaneously annulled the designation for Marketplace, citing insufficient reasoning, leaving Meta to navigate compliance for Messenger while potentially appealing the decision on review.
