Amazon custom Graviton chips gain traction as Meta commits tens of millions of cores

AMZNAMZN

Amazon shares rose 1.2% after Meta committed to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores for agentic AI workloads. Amazon explained that Graviton processors minimize inter-core latency for sequential AI tasks, positioning its custom silicon division as a key player in next-phase AI development.

1. Meta Partnership Drives Graviton Adoption

Meta will deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores to support agentic AI workloads, marking one of the largest customer commitments for the custom processor. The first phase of deployment is already underway, expanding Meta’s compute infrastructure beyond traditional GPUs to meet demands for autonomous, sequential task processing.

2. Graviton CPUs Optimized for Agentic AI Workloads

Amazon highlighted that AI agents require sustained computing power with fast inter-core communication for logic, file management, network calls and code execution. Graviton processors are engineered to reduce latency between cores, enabling efficient sequential reasoning and task execution that GPUs are less suited to handle.

3. Analyst Sees Custom Silicon Upside

Vital Knowledge analyst Adam Crisafulli noted that sentiment toward Amazon’s custom silicon business has improved markedly, driven by growing appreciation for its Graviton roadmap. He said the Meta partnership underscores how critical CPU performance will be for the next phase of AI dominated by autonomous agents.
