Meta Leases 168 MW AI Data Center in India as AI-Related Debt Tops $570 Billion
META•Morgan Stanley forecasts AI-related debt issuance doubling to $570 billion in 2026, noting hyperscalers have issued $236 billion by May and will spend $700 billion this year. Meta leased a 168 MW AI data center in Jamnagar from Reliance, powered by renewables and desalinated seawater, and secured 925 MW of new clean energy in India.
1. Surge in AI-Related Debt Issuance
Morgan Stanley projects global AI-related bond issuance will climb to nearly $570 billion in 2026, more than doubling from last year. Hyperscalers have already issued $236 billion by May and are expected to spend $700 billion on AI-driven capital expenditures this year, driving a surge in corporate debt supply.
2. Meta’s Data Center Expansion in India
Meta inked a lease with Reliance Industries for a 168 MW AI-enabled data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, to be powered entirely by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater. The company also contracted 837 MW of solar and wind projects in Rajasthan and Karnataka and 88 MW of additional clean energy capacity across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
