Meta Plans Four MTIA AI Chips, Targets 2027 Rollout

METAMETA

Meta will deploy four generations of internally built AI processors—MTIA 300, 400, 450 and 500—by 2027, with MTIA 300 already in production and MTIA 400 testing complete. MTIA 450 and 500 will optimize generative AI inference and boost processing speed through expanded high-bandwidth memory.

1. Initiative Overview

Meta launched the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator initiative to bring key AI infrastructure in-house and plans four chip generations—MTIA 300 through MTIA 500—by 2027 to meet surging computational demands.

2. Chip Generations and Status

MTIA 300 is in production powering ranking and suggestion training, and MTIA 400 has completed testing and will be deployed in data centers soon. MTIA 450 will focus on optimizing generative AI inference, while MTIA 500 aims to accelerate AI workloads by expanding high-bandwidth memory capacity.

3. Strategic Impact

By building proprietary AI processors, Meta aims to reduce reliance on external vendors, lower hardware costs and ensure tight compatibility with evolving models, bolstering its control over AI infrastructure and long-term productivity.
