Meta Rolls Out AI Business Agent to 1M Firms, Shares Down 10%
META•Meta launched a new enterprise AI business agent on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, used by over 1 million businesses and offered free initially with paid subscriptions planned. META shares are down about 10% year-to-date, but Morgan Stanley analysts project a rebound to “AI winner” status with improved enterprise service visibility.
1. Enterprise AI Business Agent Launch
Meta unveiled an AI-powered business agent at its WhatsApp-focused Conversations conference in London, enabling automated tasks such as booking appointments and closing sales. The feature expands on existing chatbots with agentic capabilities that complete actions on behalf of businesses.
2. Platform Integration and Usage
Over 1 million businesses already use earlier versions on WhatsApp and Messenger, and the new agent will roll out globally on Instagram. A broader Business Agent Platform connects to systems like Shopify, Zendesk and Shopee, offering enterprises controls, guardrails and performance measurement.
3. Competitive Positioning in Enterprise AI
The move positions Meta against rivals OpenAI, Anthropic and Google in the enterprise AI market, leveraging its social apps’ reach to attract businesses of all sizes. A newly formed Enterprise Solutions team and companywide AI restructuring support this strategic push.
4. Stock Performance and Analyst Outlook
META shares have fallen roughly 10% year-to-date, underperforming other megacap tech names due to visibility concerns. Morgan Stanley analysts suggest improved clarity on AI-driven enterprise offerings could restore Meta’s ‘AI winner’ perception and drive stock recovery.
