Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has assigned a small team to build a standalone prediction markets app called Arena, which will function independently from Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.
Arena may debut with a video game-style points system for predictions, though Meta may enable real-money wagering at a later stage, indicating a phased rollout of monetization features.
By tapping its 3.56 billion daily users, Meta aims to compete with platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket, a move that has already pressured shares of DraftKings, FanDuel parent Flutter Entertainment and Robinhood.
