Methanex plans to idle New Zealand methanol plants in Q1 2027 after selling gas entitlements through 2030

Methanex plans to idle its New Zealand methanol plants in Q1 2027 after selling substantially all of its New Zealand natural gas contractual entitlements starting in Q1 2027 through the decade-end expiry.

The company said the New Zealand methanol production facilities are targeted for indefinite idling in Q1 2027 because of declining domestic gas supply. The facilities will be kept in preservation mode for a potential restart if future gas availability improves.

Methanex said there are no material cash costs expected from the move. Any production or guidance changes will be issued with the company’s quarterly financial updates.
