Microchip Introduces 13×13mm EX-423 Oscillator with 0.2W Steady Power

MCHPMCHP

Microchip has introduced the EX-423 Evacuated Miniature Crystal Oscillator, a rugged 13×13mm timing solution sealed in ultra-high vacuum for optimal thermal insulation and enhanced frequency stability. Operating over 10–20MHz, it delivers ultra-low phase noise with 1W warm-up and just 0.2W steady-state power consumption for battery-powered designs.

1. Product Launch and Design

Microchip has unveiled the EX-423 Evacuated Miniature Crystal Oscillator (EMXO), a new compact timing solution built on the EX-421 platform. The device is ruggedized for demanding environments and housed in an ultra-high vacuum package measuring just 13×13mm.

2. Technical Specifications

The EX-423 operates across a standard 10–20MHz frequency range, combining ultra-low phase noise with tight temperature control and strong short-term stability (Allan deviation). It consumes 1W during warm-up and 0.2W at +25 °C in steady state, while a four-point crystal mount reduces g-sensitivity and enhances shock survivability.

3. Target Markets and Applications

Designed for space- and power-constrained systems, the EX-423 is ideal for GPS/GNSS tracking, military radios, medical devices, seismic Ocean Bottom Node systems, test and measurement equipment, and satellite communications. Its low-power, high-stability performance addresses critical timing needs in battery-operated and harsh-environment applications.

4. Availability and Support

The EX-423 EMXO is now available for purchase through Microchip’s global sales channels. Customers can obtain technical and sales support by contacting Microchip sales representatives or emailing VOP-Support@microchip.com.
