Microchip Launches LAN878x and LAN888x 100/1000BASE-T1 PHYs with MACsec and TSN
Microchip introduces LAN878x and LAN888x SPE PHYs supporting 100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1 and dual-speed modes with pin-compatible SKUs and SGMII/RGMII interfaces for scalable automotive and industrial systems. The devices integrate hardware MACsec security, native TSN, ISO 26262 ASIL-B functional safety and operate up to 150°C in limited sampling.
1. New SPE PHY Families Offer Dual-Speed Connectivity
The LAN878x and LAN888x families of Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) PHY transceivers support 100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1 and dual-speed 100/1000BASE-T1 modes, with pin-compatible SKUs and SGMII/RGMII host interfaces to simplify design scalability and reuse across automotive and industrial applications.
2. Integrated Security and Deterministic Networking
Both families integrate hardware-based IEEE 802.1AE-2018 MACsec for frame-level encryption, integrity and replay protection without added latency, and offer native Time-Sensitive Networking to ensure low-latency, deterministic communication for ADAS, zonal gateways and safety-critical control networks.
3. Functional Safety and Thermal Reliability
Engineered to ISO 26262 ASIL-B standards, the PHYs feature advanced on-chip diagnostics and link monitoring for accelerated fault detection, and operate at junction temperatures up to 150°C for Automotive Grade 1 environments.
4. Availability and Market Applications
Available in limited sampling, the LAN878x and LAN888x PHY families target software-defined vehicles, industrial automation, robotics and avionics, offering OEMs a pathway to scale Ethernet bandwidth and security without redesigning hardware platforms.
