Micron faces strike from one Taiwan union after deal with another
MU•A union representing workers at Micron’s Taoyuan facility said it would stage a 24-hour strike on Thursday, despite the chipmaker reaching a deal with a union at its larger Taichung site. Micron employs about 15,000 people in Taiwan.
1. Taoyuan strike planned
The Taoyuan union said Micron had not provided specific figures for a proposed profit-sharing scheme during Wednesday’s negotiations. It plans to stage a 24-hour strike outside the facility from 9 a.m. Thursday.
2. Separate union reaches deal
Micron and the Taichung union, which represents workers at the company’s largest Taiwan site, said they had signed an agreement and would withdraw from mediation talks planned for Thursday. They did not disclose the terms.
3. Potential production impact
Micron’s Taiwan operations produce DRAM and high-bandwidth memory chips used in AI servers. An analyst said the strike’s effect would depend on which production lines and key personnel were affected; if it lasts one day and critical production remains normal, the impact on supply and global markets would likely be limited.
