Micron union in Taiwan gets OK to strike
MU•A union representing Micron workers in Taoyuan, Taiwan, said 1,994 members, or 99% of those voting, authorized a strike over the company's bonus scheme. Strike timing remains under discussion, and the union said it still hopes Micron will offer a concrete profit-sharing proposal.
1. Strike vote approved
The union representing workers at Micron's Taoyuan operations said 1,994 members, or 99% of those casting ballots, voted in favour of a strike. Details, including timing, are still under discussion. The union is encouraging members to take October 19 off to join a Taipei rally, which it said would not be a strike.
2. Profit-sharing dispute
The union said Micron's fiscal 2026 rewards, which included a T$1 million ($31,386) cash bonus for Taiwan employees, did not address its demand for a permanent profit-sharing mechanism. Micron said it takes employees' concerns seriously and remains committed to engaging with its unions in good faith.
3. Taiwan workforce
Micron employs about 15,000 people in Taiwan, and unions at its Taoyuan and Taichung operations represent more than 80% of its Taiwan workforce. Mediation with the Taoyuan union ended without agreement in September, while the Taichung union remains in negotiations. Micron said it would hold another mediation session with the Taichung union later this month.
