Microsoft launches 2026 AI in Education Report with 92% student adoption and free AI tools

It also rolled out free AI-powered tools—Unit Plans, Student AI Guidelines, Learning Zone, Copilot Notebooks and Study and Learn Agent—within Microsoft 365 Education.

Microsoft’s 2026 AI in Education Report shows 92% of students and education leaders and 88% of educators have used AI for school tasks. 58% of education leaders report scaling AI programs and over 75% of participants saw increased AI use in the past year.
2. AI-Powered Teaching and Learning Tools
Microsoft is integrating Unit Plans, Student AI Guidelines and Learning Groups within the Microsoft 365 Copilot app and Assignments, enabling standards-aligned lesson creation in minutes and clear AI usage parameters at no extra cost. Copilot Notebooks and the Study and Learn Agent also debut as interactive, AI-driven study workspaces and practice tools designed to build critical thinking.
3. Training and Responsible AI Use
87% of educators and 79% of students emphasize the need for effective AI skills training, yet 77% of students and 53% of educators lack formal programs. The report calls for recurring, role-based training and classroom-level guardrails to address integrity concerns cited by over 40% of participants.
