Microsoft Leases 900 MW AI Capacity and Advances Proprietary Chip Development
MSFT•Microsoft has contracted with Crusoe to lease 900 MW of AI computing capacity at its Texas data center campus, enhancing its scalable infrastructure. The company is also accelerating development of proprietary AI chips, mirroring broader Big Tech moves to internalize chip production and reduce reliance on external suppliers.
1. Crusoe Capacity Lease
Microsoft has signed a contract with Crusoe to secure 900 MW of AI computing power at the Childress, Texas, data center campus. This capacity commitment supports the company’s expanding AI services and aligns with its strategy to ensure high-performance infrastructure for machine-learning workloads.
2. Proprietary Chip Development
Alongside capacity expansion, Microsoft is intensifying investment in its own AI chip architecture to handle training and inference tasks internally. By developing custom silicon, the company aims to optimize performance, control supply chains and compete with established GPU providers.
