Microsoft Secures 260MWac from New Texas and North Carolina Solar Projects
MSFT•MN8 Energy’s two new solar projects commissioned 260MWac capacity under long-term agreements to supply Microsoft facilities, including 120MWac in Texas and 140MWac in North Carolina. The projects are expected to lower energy costs, bolster Microsoft’s renewable energy portfolio and support local tax revenues and job creation.
1. Solar Agreements with Microsoft
MN8 Energy has commenced commercial operations on two utility-scale solar installations totalling 260MWac under long-term power purchase agreements with Microsoft to supply electricity to its data centers and cloud infrastructure.
2. Project Details and Locations
The 120MWac Long Point Solar facility in Brazoria County, Texas, feeds the ERCOT Houston load zone, while the 140MWac American Beech project in Halifax County, North Carolina, delivers power to the PJM Interconnection network.
3. Economic and Community Benefits
Both projects generated over 300 construction jobs and created nearly a dozen permanent positions, and are projected to contribute significant tax revenues to local governments, funding schools and public services.
4. Strategic Impact on Microsoft
These solar additions support Microsoft’s target of increasing its renewable energy usage and improving ESG metrics, while potentially reducing long-term energy expenses and demonstrating scalable clean energy partnerships.
