MIT files patent lawsuit against Amazon over cloud security technology
AMZN•MIT sued Amazon in Boston federal court, alleging AWS technology used to create cryptographic keys infringes two patents. MIT seeks an unspecified amount of monetary damages.
1. Patent claims against AWS
MIT said in a lawsuit filed Friday that AWS uses physical unclonable function technology to create unique cryptographic keys in violation of its patent rights. The complaint alleges the cloud-security technology, supplied by Synopsys, infringes patents covering innovations by an MIT professor; Synopsys is not a defendant.
2. Damages sought
MIT asked the court for an unspecified amount of monetary damages. Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
3. Earlier Microsoft case
MIT filed a similar lawsuit against Microsoft in Texas in May, which remains ongoing.
