Moderna rises after US approval for flu vaccine
MRNA•Analysts see growth potential
The approval is a fundamental positive that adds another potential leg of growth in 2027 and beyond, and enables MRNA to obtain FDA clarity on mCombriax, its COVID-flu combination shot, Jefferies analysts said.
Jefferies estimates about $750 million revenue from Moderna's U.S. flu and COVID-flu shots.
Up to last close, the stock was up about 91% year to date.
Moderna shares rise after FDA approval
Moderna MRNA.O shares rose 3.7% to $58.34 in premarket trading after the U.S. FDA, late on Wednesday, approved the company's vaccine for seasonal flu, the first messenger RNA-based shot to be approved for the indication.
The shot, mFlusiva, was given a traditional approval for adults aged 50 to 64, and an accelerated approval for those 65 years and older.
Additional study required for older adults
Moderna needs to run an additional study and submit more data in adults 65 and older to confirm the vaccine's benefit in that age group.
