NextEra Energy Transmission Energizes 137-Mile Line, Cuts Bills by $13 Monthly
NEE•NextEra Energy Transmission energized a 137-mile, 345-kV Crossroads-Hobbs-Roadrunner line connecting substations in Roosevelt and Lea counties, delivered five months early and on budget. The line is expected to lower residential bills by $13 per month and enhance grid reliability, supporting regional growth and ESG goals.
1. Project Energization
NextEra Energy Transmission energized the Crossroads-Hobbs-Roadrunner 345-kV, 137-mile transmission line connecting Roosevelt and Lea counties in New Mexico. The project was completed five months ahead of schedule and remained on budget, marking the third consecutive Southwest Power Pool transmission project delivered on time.
2. Operational and Financial Impact
The new line bolsters grid reliability for homes, businesses, and industries by increasing low-cost energy access across the region. It is projected to reduce typical residential electric bills by about $13 per month, supporting broader economic growth and electricity demand management.
3. Environmental and ESG Benefits
Collaboration between project partners set aside approximately 40 square miles for lesser prairie chicken habitat preservation. This conservation effort complements renewable transmission infrastructure and contributes to NextEra Energy’s environmental, social, and governance credentials.
