NIO Recalls 246,229 EVs for Screen Blackouts While Posting 0.7–1.2 B Yuan Q4 Profit

NIO is recalling 246,229 ES8, ES6 and EC6 vehicles built between March 2018 and January 2023 to deploy software updates after instrument clusters and screens risk blackouts. The EV maker expects 4Q25 adjusted operating profit of 0.7–1.2 billion yuan following a 96.1% delivery surge to 27,182 vehicles in January.

1. Recall Affects 246,229 ES8, ES6 and EC6 Vehicles

NIO has initiated a recall of 246,229 ES8, ES6 and EC6 models built between March 16, 2018 and January 16, 2023 due to a software defect that can cause instrument cluster and screen blackouts. The company plans to deliver over-the-air software updates and, where necessary, conduct upgrades at service centers to resolve the safety issue.

2. First-Ever 4Q25 Profit and Delivery Surge

After reporting a 5.54 billion yuan loss in 4Q24, NIO expects 0.7–1.2 billion yuan in adjusted operating profit for 4Q25, marking its first profitable quarter. January deliveries soared 96.1% year-over-year to 27,182 vehicles, led by the third-generation ES8, pushing cumulative deliveries past one million units.

3. Infrastructure Expansion and Smart EV Upgrades

To support growing demand and future product launches, NIO is expanding its battery swapping and fast-charging network across key markets. The company also rolled out its upgraded WorldModel in January 2026 to enhance assisted driving, smart parking and safety features in its smart EV lineup.
