Nokia and Iceye to make low-orbit satellite systems for defense, security
NOK•Nokia and Iceye will develop satellite communications systems for governments and defense contractors, with the first satellites expected to launch in 2028.
1. Satellite partnership
The companies said their systems will support missions including military and border security, emergency services and disaster response. They described the planned low Earth orbit broadband systems as secure, sovereign and high-performance.
2. European technology
Nokia and Iceye said the systems will give nations ownership and control of the satellites, ground segment and terminals. Starlink, owned by SpaceX, is among the rivals in low Earth orbit systems.
