Norway appeals court orders Seadrill to pay SFL NOK 525 million over rig redelivery breach
SDRL•Borgarting Court of Appeal ordered Seadrill to pay SFL about NOK 525 million over a breach tied to the Hercules rig’s December 2022 redelivery. The amount includes compensation, late-payment interest and legal costs; either side can seek a Supreme Court appeal within one month.
1. Court upholds ruling
The court found Seadrill breached a contract related to the Hercules rig’s December 2022 redelivery and largely upheld Oslo District Court’s February 2025 ruling. The payable amount rose to about NOK 525 million with accrued interest, and SFL was awarded full legal costs at both court levels. Either side can seek a Supreme Court appeal within one month.
