Novo's CagriSema helped women lose 25% of weight on average, analysis shows
NVO•Novo Nordisk said its experimental drug CagriSema was associated with average weight loss of 25% among women with obesity or overweight after 68 weeks, compared with 3% on placebo. The analysis covered 2,309 women in a late-stage study; an FDA decision on the drug is expected in the fourth quarter.
1. Women’s weight loss results
Novo Nordisk said CagriSema, a weekly injection combining cagrilintide and semaglutide, was associated with average weight loss of 25% after 68 weeks among 2,309 women in the REDEFINE 1 late-stage study. Women on placebo lost 3% on average. In the full trial of more than 3,400 adults, CagriSema led to 22.7% weight loss, below Novo’s 25% target.
2. Results by menopause stage
A separate post hoc analysis of 1,902 overweight or obese women found average weight loss of 26.7% among premenopausal women, 24.8% among perimenopausal women and 23.1% among postmenopausal women at week 68. Novo said the analyses were hypothesis-generating and required further study. A U.S. FDA decision on CagriSema for weight management is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.
