Nurix says Sanofi discontinues autoimmune disease drug program
SNY•Sanofi has stopped developing its experimental autoimmune disease drug SAR448272, ending potential future milestone payments and royalties for Nurix. Nurix shares fell 38% in extended trading, and the company reported about $1.1 billion in cash, equivalents and marketable securities as of August 31.
1. Program discontinued
Nurix said Sanofi decided to stop developing oral drug candidate SAR448272 after discontinuing an early-stage trial. Sanofi said the decision followed an assessment of emerging non-clinical data that did not meet its criteria for continued development, and was not a broader judgment on STAT6 as a drug target.
2. Payments and finances
Nurix does not expect future development, regulatory or commercial milestone payments or royalties associated with SAR448272. It remains eligible for payments and royalties from other candidates under its collaboration with Sanofi. Nurix said it had about $1.1 billion in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities as of August 31, which it expects to fund operations into the second half of 2029.
3. Collaboration background
Under a 2019 collaboration, Nurix used its targeted protein degradation platform to discover drug candidates for Sanofi. Nurix said Sanofi expanded the partnership in 2025 by licensing two programs targeting transcription factors for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including SAR448272.
