NWPX Infrastructure Completes 1,290-Foot Curved Steel Microtunneling Installation
NWPX•NWPX Infrastructure completed the first field installation of its patent-pending Permalok Radial Bending Joint, delivering 1,290 feet of 72-inch steel casing pipe along a 5,500-foot-radius curve under New Jersey’s Pleasure Bay for emergency wastewater conveyance. This weld-free curved microtunneling technology preserves structural integrity and reduces labor, opening new project opportunities.
1. Technology Breakthrough
NWPX Infrastructure has developed the patent-pending Permalok Radial Bending Joint, enabling steel casing pipe to follow controlled horizontal, vertical, diagonal and compound curves without welding, while retaining press-fit connection benefits.
2. Field Deployment in New Jersey
The first installation involved 1,290 linear feet of 72-inch steel casing pipe installed along a 5,500-foot-radius alignment beneath Pleasure Bay to restore emergency wastewater conveyance for the Two Rivers Water Reclamation Authority.
3. Strategic Market Implications
By reducing field labor requirements and expanding design flexibility, this weld-free curved microtunneling solution positions NWPX Infrastructure to compete for complex infrastructure projects that were previously too disruptive or costly to execute.
