Obamacare enrollment fell to 20.5 million people as of June, KFF says
XLV•Affordable Care Act enrollment fell 18% year over year to 20.5 million people in June, down from 25.2 million a year earlier, KFF said.
1. Enrollment declines
Enrollment in Affordable Care Act plans fell 18% to 20.5 million in June, the steepest annual decline since 2015. Millions have dropped coverage this year after extra pandemic subsidies expired, doubling or tripling costs for some people.
2. Further declines expected
KFF said plan membership is expected to continue falling through 2026. Seventeen percent of members surveyed in March said they were not confident they could pay premiums through the year. Insurers offering the plans flagged rising medical costs, and insurers requested a median rate increase of 14% this year, the second-highest increase in nearly a decade.
