Otis Brazil Modernizes Three Elevators, Adds Four Escalators and Two Inclined Lifts at Christ the Redeemer
OTIS•Otis Brazil has modernized three Gen2 elevators at Rio’s Christ the Redeemer, replacing machinery, controls and signage, and will add four outdoor escalators and two inclined elevators for enhanced accessibility. Commissioned by concessionaire Trem do Corcovado under ICMBio’s plan, it builds on Otis’s original 2003 installation at the landmark.
1. Project Completion and Expansion
Otis Brazil has completed comprehensive modernization of three Gen2 elevators at Christ the Redeemer and is commencing installation of four new outdoor escalators and two inclined elevators to improve visitor accessibility.
2. Technical Upgrades
The renovation replaced elevator machinery, control systems, signage, fixtures and buttons, while the new escalators feature outdoor durability design and the inclined elevators are customized for passengers with limited mobility.
3. Strategic Impact for Otis
Commissioned by Trem do Corcovado under ICMBio’s revitalization plan, this project builds on Otis’s original 2003 installation, reinforces its service contract portfolio in landmark sites and supports recurring maintenance revenue streams.
