Poland to host European Patriot maintenance centre, government says
LMT•Poland will host the only Patriot missile maintenance centre outside the United States. The investment is valued at around 1 billion zlotys ($253.41 million), and the centre is expected to become operational in about a dozen months.
1. Centre location selected
A maintenance centre for Lockheed Martin-made Patriot interceptor missiles will be established in Poland, Deputy Defence Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said. Poland competed with Germany, the Netherlands and Norway for the European location.
2. Investment and timing
Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said the investment would be worth around 1 billion zlotys ($253.41 million) and take a dozen or so months to become operational. The European centre will allow missiles to be serviced faster than when they had to be sent to the United States.
