Petrobras Brings P-79 FPSO Online, Adds 180,000 bpd Capacity to Búzios Field
Petrobras began oil production at Búzios 8 with the P-79 FPSO, adding 180,000 barrels per day and lifting field capacity to 1.33 million barrels daily. The early start-up also enables 7.2 million cubic metres of gas processing and up to 3 mcm of gas supply via the ROTA 3 pipeline.
1. Start-up and Early Delivery
Petrobras has initiated production at the Búzios 8 project using the P-79 FPSO, which arrived in Brazil from South Korea in February. This start-up occurred ahead of schedule in the company’s 2026–2030 business plan, underscoring improved execution and operational readiness.
2. Production and Technical Specifications
The P-79 FPSO processes up to 180,000 barrels of oil and compresses 7.2 million cubic metres of gas per day, linking 14 wells—eight producers and six injectors—with intelligent completion systems. It also interconnects with the ROTA 3 pipeline to supply up to 3 mcm of daily gas.
3. Field Expansion and Future Deployments
With Búzios 8 online, the field’s installed oil capacity rises to approximately 1.33 million barrels per day. Petrobras and its partners are constructing additional FPSOs P-80, P-82, and P-83, and are considering a Búzios 12 contract, targeting a total of 12 units when complete.
