Petrobras Discovers Oil in Pre-Salt Marlim Sul Well at 1,178 m Depth
Petrobras discovered oil in the pre-salt Marlim Sul field via well 3-BRSA-1397-RJS, drilled 113 km offshore at 1,178 m water depth. Samples will undergo lab analysis to assess reservoir characteristics, supporting the company’s Campos Basin reserve replacement strategy.
1. Marlim Sul Oil Discovery
Petrobras announced an oil find in the pre-salt Marlim Sul field via exploration well 3-BRSA-1397-RJS, drilled 113 km off Campos dos Goytacazes in 1,178 m of water in the Campos Basin.
2. Well Data and Analysis
Identification of the oil-bearing interval was based on wireline logs, hydrocarbon shows and fluid sampling; collected samples will undergo laboratory analysis to determine reservoir properties and fluid characteristics.
3. Strategic Reserve Replacement
The discovery supports Petrobras’s initiative to replace reserves in the aging Campos Basin region, leveraging full field ownership to bolster long-term production and Brazil’s energy security.
4. Copoazu-1 Gas Discovery
Separately, Petrobras reported a gas find at the Copoazu-1 well in Colombia’s Block GUA-OFF-O, drilled 36 km offshore at 964 m depth near Sirius-1 and Sirius-2, reinforcing its regional gas portfolio.
