PG&E Allocates $50M to Expand $1,000 Bill-Matching Program to 78,000 Customers
PCG•PG&E’s Match My Payment Program has provided $30 million in dollar-for-dollar matching payments to 78,000 low-to-moderate income customers, covering up to $1,000 per account to address past-due energy bills. PG&E allocated $50 million in 2026 to extend Match My Payment and REACH credits, potentially reducing bad-debt reserves.
1. Program Details
Launched in June 2025, PG&E’s Match My Payment Program offers dollar-for-dollar matching up to $1,000 per customer to pay past-due energy bills. To date, it has disbursed nearly $30 million across 78,000 low-to-moderate income households to prevent service disconnections.
2. 2026 Expansion
In 2026, PG&E committed an additional $50 million to extend Match My Payment and its REACH credit program, which provides up to $800 per eligible account. Combined, customers can receive up to $1,800 in relief and may apply multiple times subject to federal income guidelines.
3. Financial Impact
By offsetting past-due balances, the program aims to reduce bad-debt reserves and stabilize recurring revenue streams. The initiative also enhances customer goodwill in high-need counties such as Fresno, Kern and San Joaquin, where over $12.5 million has been distributed.
