Pinnacle West's APS targets 6,000 MW of battery storage by 2030
PNW•APS expects approximately 6,000 megawatts of battery storage on its system by 2030. Its 2026 resource plan identifies nearly $1 billion in potential savings from extending Four Corners operations.
1. Resource plan details
APS filed its 2026 resource plan, which says operating Four Corners beyond 2031 could lower replacement costs; its lease requires retirement no later than 2038. The plan also includes natural gas additions at the new Desert Sun plant, an expansion at Saguaro and conversion of the retired coal-fired Cholla plant. APS forecasts annual electricity use will double by 2041 from 2026 levels.
