Prometheus Energetics Breaks Ground on 600-Acre Indiana Solid Rocket Motor Campus
Prometheus Energetics, a joint venture of Kratos Defense and RAFAEL, broke ground on a 600-acre solid rocket motor campus in Indiana with $175 million committed. The facility will house four production lines capable of 800 tons of solid rocket motor output and aims to start manufacturing in 2027.
1. Groundbreaking Ceremony
Prometheus Energetics, the joint venture between Kratos Defense and RAFAEL, officially kicked off construction on its Indiana campus. The ceremony gathered state and local officials, industry partners and community leaders to mark the transition from planning to full execution of domestic solid rocket motor production.
2. Campus Specifications
The new facility spans approximately 600 acres and is designed to support four solid rocket motor production lines. Once operational, it will deliver up to 800 tons of domestic energetics manufacturing capacity, with room for future expansion.
3. Investment and Timeline
Kratos and RAFAEL have committed up to $175 million in capital for property, plant, equipment, workforce development and technology transfer. Following construction and certification of manufacturing processes, Prometheus plans to begin SRM production in 2027.
4. Strategic and Industrial Impact
As the anchor tenant of ACMI's National Security Industrial Hub, Prometheus aims to close critical supply chain gaps and bolster U.S. defense readiness. The campus is expected to strengthen domestic resiliency, create high-skilled jobs and support multiple missile programs.
