PureCycle and TOPPAN Produce Snack Wrapper with Over 30% Recycled Content

PCTPCT

PureCycle and TOPPAN launched a partnership producing a snack wrapper with over 30% recycled content using PureFive® resin, meeting FDA food-contact standards and demonstrating printability and performance. They plan to extend PureFive® into thermoformed applications like snack cups and microwaveable containers to support brand owners’ compliance with upcoming recycled-content mandates.

1. Partnership Launch

PureCycle Technologies and TOPPAN Packaging Americas have formed a strategic partnership to address growing demand for high-quality recycled content in flexible packaging. Their first product is a snack bar wrapper containing more than 30% recycled material, showcasing the viability of PureCycle’s PureFive® resin in demanding packaging formats.

2. Product Performance and Compliance

The PureFive® resin formulation used in the wrapper meets FDA standards for food-contact applications and delivers the printability and barrier properties required by leading snack brands. PureCycle’s dissolution recycling process removes colors, odors and contaminants from #5 polypropylene, producing a resin that performs like virgin material.

3. Expansion into Thermoformed Packaging

Building on snack wrapper success, the companies intend to target multiple thermoforming formats such as snack cups and microwaveable containers. This expansion aims to help brand owners comply with forthcoming recycled-content regulations while maintaining product safety and performance standards.
