Scale sued Parse in 2022, alleging it infringed three cell-sequencing patents that Scale licensed from Roche. The patents' inventor Garry Nolan co-founded Scale.
Parse denied the allegations and argued that the patents were invalid and has separately countersued Scale for infringing its patents.
Qiagen acquired Parse last December, while California-based 10x acquired Scale last August.
Parse and Qiagen said in a statement that they were disappointed with the verdict and that Parse will "continue to vigorously defend itself in this litigation."
10x said in a statement that it would seek enhanced damages, attorneys' fees and a permanent injunction against Parse following the verdict. Spokespeople for Roche did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the verdict.
A jury in Delaware federal court determined on Friday that Qiagen's Parse Biosciences must pay 10x Genomics' Scale Biosciences and Roche $4.8 million for violating their patent rights in genetic-sequencing technology.
The jury agreed with Scale and Roche that Parse's Evercode platform, used in biomedical research, infringes three Scale patents. The jury also determined that Parse infringed the patents willfully, which could lead a judge to multiply the award by up to three times.
