RBC poll shows 53% of prospective Canadian homebuyers consider multi-generational homes
RY•RBC's poll found that 53% of prospective Canadian homebuyers planning to purchase within two years would consider a multi-generational home, compared with 44% of all respondents. Among upcoming first-time buyers, 74% sought a home they would not outgrow.
1. Buyer preferences shift
RBC's home ownership poll found rising interest in multi-generational homes as affordability strains Canadian housing demand. Non-homeowners expected to make their first purchase at an average age of 41, compared with 29 for current owners, and half of non-owners were unsure when they would buy. Among respondents renewing a mortgage within two years, 51% said the process was nearly as stressful as a first purchase.
