Realloys Secures 80% of NdPr and 15% of Tanbreez, Pressuring General Dynamics
GD•Realloys invested $20.6 million to upgrade Saskatchewan Research Council, securing exclusive rights to 80% of its expanded NdPr capacity. The company also locked in 15% of the 15,000-ton Tanbreez rare earth concentrate, tightening General Dynamics' magnet supply ahead of the Pentagon’s January 2027 non-Chinese sourcing deadline.
1. Realloys' Saskatchewan Facility Upgrade
Realloys committed $20.6 million to the Saskatchewan Research Council in Saskatoon for engineering, permitting and equipment to expand heavy rare earth processing. The upgrades will boost annual NdPr output by 25% to about 525 tonnes and double dysprosium and terbium capacities, giving Realloys exclusive rights to 80% of the expanded output.
2. Greenland Tanbreez Offtake Deal
Under a 15-year agreement, Realloys locked in 15% of the 15,000-ton annual Phase 1 concentrate from Greenland's Tanbreez project, one of the world’s richest heavy rare earth deposits. The deal grants priority access to dysprosium- and terbium-rich streams and a right of first refusal on additional volumes.
3. Implications for General Dynamics
As a major defense systems manufacturer, General Dynamics depends on heavy rare earth magnets for precision-guided munitions and radar arrays. With Realloys controlling the majority of Western NdPr capacity and significant heavy rare earth supply through January 2027, General Dynamics could face tighter inventories and higher procurement costs unless it secures alternative sources.
