1. Project Launch
Republic Services has begun construction on its 140-acre San Bernardino Sustainability Park, aiming for a late 2026 opening. The site includes 60 acres dedicated to next-generation compost operations using aerated static pile technology.
2. Processing Capacity and Technology
The facility will initially handle over 300,000 tons of yard and food waste annually, with expansion plans to scale capacity to 600,000 tons. Modern depackaging systems will remove contaminants and enhance compost quality.
3. Regulatory and Environmental Impact
This park is designed to help Southern California communities meet SB 1383 organic waste reduction mandates by diverting material from landfills. Reduced long-haul transport will lower vehicle emissions and return high-quality compost locally.
4. Economic and Regional Benefits
Construction and ongoing operations are expected to create new jobs, while a network of transfer stations will integrate the facility as a key organics hub for Los Angeles and Orange counties.
