Rivian’s Q4 Deliveries of 9,745 Units Fall 3% Short of Forecast

RIVNRIVN

Rivian delivered 9,745 vehicles in Q4 2025, missing analyst forecasts of about 10,050 units, while producing 10,974 at its Illinois facility. Full-year deliveries reached 42,247 units, slightly below Wall Street’s ~42,500 forecast, as the company tightens cost controls and prepares for its $45,000 R2 model launch in 2026.

1. Fourth-Quarter Deliveries Fall Short of Expectations

Rivian reported delivery of 9,745 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2025, missing the consensus forecast of approximately 10,050 units. Production at its Normal, Illinois plant reached 10,974 vehicles during the same period. The shortfall reflects broader cooling in U.S. EV demand following the expiration of a $7,500 federal tax credit at the end of September, which effectively increased out-of-pocket purchase costs for consumers across the sector.

2. Full-Year Results in Line with Internal Targets as Analysts’ Forecasts Dip

For the full year, Rivian delivered 42,247 vehicles after producing 42,284 units, slightly below Visible Alpha’s consensus of around 42,500 deliveries. The annual volume represents a 17.6% decline from 2024, consistent with company guidance. Management emphasized that both quarterly and full-year outcomes aligned with its internal production and delivery plans, even as external forecasts were trimmed.

3. Efficiency Initiatives Drive Cost Discipline

Facing softer near-term volume growth, Rivian launched component simplification and material-cost reduction programs at its Illinois facility. These initiatives aim to narrow operating losses without reliance on higher production figures. By standardizing key parts across models and renegotiating supplier contracts, the company expects to lower per-unit manufacturing expenses by a targeted mid-single-digit percentage over the next two quarters.

4. Longer-Term Outlook Hinges on Affordable R2 Model

Analysts remain constructive on Rivian’s medium-term prospects, largely contingent upon the launch of the R2 crossover in early 2026. Priced around $45,000 and produced at Normal, the R2 is positioned to broaden Rivian’s addressable market and drive incremental deliveries. A successful rollout could offset current demand headwinds in the higher-price segment and support a return to year-over-year delivery growth by 2027.
